Origin of “The Fantasist”

‘Fantasist’ came from my favourite comedy “Love and Other Disasters

it’s a brit comedy, with an amazing script and brilliant actors. the only movie i’ll ever watch and rewatch, and laugh every time. only because everything ties in so well, the plot, the jokes, the ideas portrayed. and it puts forth so many ideas that are so true.

So Peter, one of the two leads in the show (at least, i consider him a lead) is very much like me. except he’s a budding scriptwriter with an active imagination. we share the latter.

He gets a subplot in the movie, where he bumps into a guy, and feels what he calls ‘love at first sight’. something which happens to me a lot.. but he gets the guy’s name wrong, and then he tells his friend, who tells another friend and so on, until they all think they know him, David, and they arrange a lunch for the both of them to meet.

Peter is completely embarrassed by his friends who are desperate to match him off with someone, because they believe he’s such a catch, and he finally meets David, insisting that he’s completely normal. Just a fantasist.

David: "So after all that, I'm not the one?"

Peter: "Bit of a relief, huh?"

David: "I suppose so."

Peter: "You must have thought I was a stalker freak. Thanks to my discreet friends."

Finlay: "We were just trying to help."

Peter: "Yes, by making me out to be a desperate fantasist?"

Finlay: "You are a desperate fantasist."

Peter: "No, I'm not actually." /
Finlay: "He is."

Peter: "I'm a fantasist, I'm not desperate."

what’s ironic is that he ends up with this guy in the end. (Y)
